Washington D.C.  – The Application Developers Alliance, a global membership organization that supports app developers and promotes the app industry, announced today that Sophie Mestchersky will lead the Alliance's European policy and government affairs activity. Alliance membership includes more than 175 companies and 35,000 developers globally, including more than 8,000 developers in Europe. The Alliance European Board includes executives from Ericsson (Stockholm), Applift (Berlin), Smaato (Hamburg) and Outfit7 (Ljubljana).

“The European app industry is significant and sophisticated. It contributes 1 million jobs and €13 billion to the EU GDP, and we need a strong voice to engage with European policy-makers and regulators,” said Jon Potter, President of the Application Developers Alliance. “Sophie's experience and credibility are precisely what the Alliance and the app industry needs in Brussels, and we are thrilled to have Sophie on our team.”

“Developers represent the growing tech sector in Europe,” said Martin Wrigley, European General Manager of the Application Developers Alliance. “It is imperative that we help innovative developers build successful businesses and advocate for public policies that promote industry growth. Sophie is the right person to help us accomplish these goals.”

Sophie Mestchersky has more than 10 years experience in European public affairs and public relations, most recently with the government affairs team at Apple where she spent more than three years working on several policy issues, including copyright, e-commerce, data protection, consumer and child protection and mobile health. Before joining Apple, Sophie worked in a Brussels-based communications and public affairs consultancy.

Sophie Mestchersky holds a degree in corporate law from University of Paris II and a master’s degree in European affairs from the Institut Politiques de Paris.  A native French speaker, Sophie is also fluent in English and has a good knowledge of Russian and Spanish.

The Application Developers Alliance continues to expand its operations in Europe. Earlier this month the Alliance hired Keir Ferris to lead its European events team from his base in London, and Michael Greenberg to lead European membership development from his base in southern Spain.
